I was happy to get asked to do another comic strip film review for Electric Sheep Magazine recently, which was for Hammer’s 1966 Plague of the Zombies. I’ve always been meaning to get it watched, so this was a bit of a blessing.
The strip will probably be up on their site soon, but I thought I’d share some first scratchy sketches on here I did as I was watching, as I’m just as happy with them as much as the final strip.
I haven’t spent enough time in sketchbooks just drawing recently, so am warming myself back up. Here are a couple of US Office character sketches from tonight.
A few weeks ago I somehow managed to get the far braver than me Dan Berry to start the drawcoop meme on Twitter after posting the above sketch. I’d spent about two days trying to draw Special Agent Cooper from Twin Peaks, and this was the best I did.
Although it doesn’t look dead on as far as likenesses go, I think I got the character down. My personal criteria for a successful Coop was if I could hear his voice come out of any of the faces I was drawing – and I could with this one.
Comprehensive fan site Welcome to Twin Peaks spotted the Coops and blogged a collection of them. There’s some brilliant ones.
Here’s a couple of sketches I did last night whilst watching Fire Walk With Me. I realised the late Teresa Banks had similar hair to Gwen from Video Nasties, so got a couple of sketches done for help.
And just for the record, I love Fire Walk With Me.
